My wife's main reason for getting the pixel 8 pro was the on device transcriptions for audio. She uses it for meetings where she can record the meeting and the phone will transcribe it, then kick out the entire meeting or make minutes for the recorded meeting.

It's a feature that saves her hours, and headaches and I am wondering is this feature on iPhone now with iOS 27? I know we could have downloaded an app, but for the sheer amount of hours we would have had to pay a monthly charge where as on the P8P it's on device so it's free with no sub.

thanks

Audio recording and transcription has been working well on iOS 26 already. Just record in the Notes app and it transcribes automatically.

If you want more advanced stuff, there are third-party apps like Granola (I use that one) which also summarize the transcriptions on the fly, keep a searchable archive etc. The basic version of Granola is free and is very usable, I've used it with many long meetings very successfully.
