Audio sharing - phone call

Hello. I know audio sharing allows for two sets of air pods to be connected at the same time. Does anyone know if this extends to phone calls? For example if my wife and I want to take a call from someone at the same time. Can we be both be connected and will her audio route through her mic while mine routes through mine?
