When the iPhone is plugged in, I have a bar showing the space on my iPhone. What does the orange "Other" mean?

should i be worried if one day its 195 mb and then the next its 3.1 gb?

I would be. restore that.

ya, anything over 300mb isn't normal .... especially 3.1gb ... restoring should fix things.. (i had a similar issue)
