Hi to everyone. Newbie here writing but reading you from long time ago :)

I’m trying something and can’t get how to do it, so maybe someone knows how to do it. I listen to a podcast where they read pulp, horror, fantasy stories (Conan, Lovecraft…). I usually listen to the episodes in an old iPod nano when in the bed, so I add the mp3 files to the Music app and then sync them to the iPod, but I would like to set the files as audiobooks instead than as music files, so they appeared in Apple Books.

I recall that in older versions of MacOS you can set the type of file (music, podcast, audiobook) in iTunes, but in the Music app now that’s impossible (there’s still the option but you can only choose Music file type) and can’t find another way ?‍♂️

Thanks a lot in advance.

Hi,

I found that converting mp3 into m4b good in my experience.

I use Audiobook Builder (Paid app with free trial) and works great for me.
There is a free app on the Mac App Store called Audiobook Binder which seems to work the same (I have not personally tried this but looks like it works similarly to the first app).

Good luck!

I’ll try those apps. Just a question. Once you have the m4b files, you just drag them into Apple Books?

Yes you can. Apple Books is the default app, on Monterey at least, that opens m4b files.

If I have a PDF version of the same audio book, can I put the PDF + Audio in the same book or will it create separate entries?

Hi minus182. Just confirm you that Audiobook Binder works like a charm. It's really easy to use and in seconds you get your audiobook files :) Thanks a lot.

And now a related question for anyone that knows about this: why my audiobooks don't sync through iCloud? They remain in my Macbook and don't appear in my iPhone or iPad 🤷‍♂️

I forgot about this thread. I contacted Apple about this issue and they confirmed me that the audiobooks you add to Apple Books from outside the bookstore don’t sync through iCloud
