Audioengine 5+ speaker owners

I'm looking into getting these speakers to replace my Bose setup. Do you recommend the S8 sub woofer or is it really needed with the 5+ speakers & DAC setup. I'm not into allot of thumping music just wanting a mellow deep base.

If it were up to me, i'd go for the KRK RP5 G2 Active Studio Monitors. They do a subwoofer as well, and as they are monitors have a more natural and accurate sound. Fully active too.
