Maybe these guys will be first to offer the AppleWatch solution I'm looking for. I just want to be able to go for a run with nothing but my AppleWatch, and be able to lock/unlock my front door using nothing but the watch, standalone, without being connected to my iPhone. It should be as easy as when I use ApplePay at a payment terminal on my watch, while my iPhone is someplace else.

You can do that now with the August lock.

Original buyer. Sat on lock for 1 year. Finally installed and what a PIA. Lock would not update. Had to call them. No features really worked well and I had to have my phone out to enter or leave. The new keypad is the missing ingredient but too late for me.

Sold my August on eBay and got a yale:

Much happier

Have to say the doorbell is pretty cool. But the delivery scenario is not realistic. If they need a signature it wont help. If they don't, they can just leave it. Only good for screening or letting someone it. But the digital keys solve the letting people in so for $200 you get a door screener. I have a peep hole for that. If I am not home I don't care whose at the door.

My door locks automatically when I leave, unlocks when I return, auto-relocks 5 minutes later. It can also be manually controlled by my iPhone or watch from anywhere. It can also be unlocked with a key, with a keypad, or with an RF remote. I've had this for well over a year and it cost less than the August model.

Only if you leave your phone near the door.

I have a connect system as well so anywhere in my house it would work.

Anyway, they are trying to back peddle with me about the promise of homekit in my lock. This is not over.

Does August have a native WatchOS app yet?

I bought the Schlage Sense day one and feel I should let everyone know that the tag line (your phone is your key) is deceptive. You could walk up to the door and say, Siri, unlock the front door and it would open, but it does not "sense" the phone approach and unlock. So obviously I just use the keypad with a small amount of bitterness at assuming that the product was called sense because it would sense my approach.

I haven't returned it or anything but the $30 price difference over the Schlage Connect is that it uses the iPhone app to manage codes. That means that we actually did enter codes for each kid.

I was reluctant to use August's auto open for awhile after buying it but since enabling it and after some updates it works fairly consistently and is a nice luxury to have your door open as you approach it.

August sucked. The whole phone access approach is terrible and inconvenient. In the end, bought a keypad yale lock. Punch in my combo and it opens. Easy and no fumbling for my phone.

Well, when August worked you wouldn't have to fumble for the phone, because it would just open the lock. The problem I had with it was it didn't always work.

It's been pretty consistently lately. I almost had to pull out my phone yesterday but I heard the lock open before it did. It usually opens before I even make it to the door.

Not when leaving. Even with the auto lock once you are far enough away...I found it failed to work. Overall, it was untrustworthy.

This was pretty much my exact experience too. One day when I still had August, my SO asked me why I was still manually locking the door by hand when I left the house, and I thought about it and replied that I just didn't trust August to lock itself behind me. Pretty much solidified my decision to get rid of it and go with the Sense.

Yep....It was just unreliable. I had used keypad locks for years and thats all I needed. Would be nice to be able to control the lock via phone...and I could with the Yale, but I decided to but the cheaper one for now. Works great, open in 10 seconds, relocks 30 seconds later.
