hurricane names alternate, male, female on the annual (I believe a new one is made each year...) list of names. It has been that way as long as I can remember.

I though they named hurricanes A-Z, 1 year A is male, B female, etc then the next year, A is female, B is male, etc.

I am positive that it alternates Male - Female each year, and I am almost positive that the first hurricane of the year starts with an A, the second a B, etc.

Almost time for a new desktop to go on my MBP...gotta start looking.

It doesn't. A is male one year, A is female the next. In 2009, A will be Ana. In 2010, A will be Alex. B in 2009 will be a male name (Bill), and B in 2010 will be a female name (Bonnie).
