Austin Apple store this year?

bah!

We should have had an Apple store when the first one opened! While I have been excited about this for months, I wish we were getting a special store like some of the new ones that are opening. Austin is a very tech-centric city, and I know a ton of Apple users here, and more switching all the time. The only places we have now are CompUSA and Fry's for Apple computers locally, both of which are a joke. CompUSA won't sell the latest model if it conflicts with something in their current stock, and are very slow to get new stuff. Fry's section is also pathetic, also slow, and their sales staff are just leftovers from the people who can't hack it in the PC department it would seem. I have corrected several sales associates just passing through, it makes me wonder how many things they state each day that only hurts Apple when the person is dissapointed later on.

infoAppleStore is now giving a opening date for the Austin Store.

Wow... that's fast! We've had one in the works for a couple years now in Charlotte and it's FINALLY opening tomorrow. I think I'll skip the opener, though--it's combined with the (WAY more hyped) opening of a new Nordstroms, so it should be a madhouse down there.

Hang around a parking lot long enough and you'll hear everything. So... the Barton Creek (Tex.) retail store is scheduled to open Sat., June 12th.

That's an interesting way to get information about Apple stores... I wonder who ifoAppleStore has in Austin to get this info... Maybe us Austin Mac users can have a Geekfest Austin sometime, to celebrate our store...

Ifoapplestore has just posted something interesting...

Sr. V-P for Retail Ron Johnson will give the luncheon keynote address on April 22nd for the Success By Design conference in Rhode Island. According to the conference Web site, "Listen as Johnson describes how design principles unify branding, merchandising, marketing and people to deliver the best buying experience on the planet, and why an Apple store is coming to a neighborhood near you."

Hmmm... I wonder if this means an apple store is coming to the Providence Place mall??!!

Finally! Apple got some sense...

Finally! Apple got some sense... I've been waiting for so long!

Unfortunately I can't go to the opening. Going to China  :p ;).

Well, we'll see what comes about.

Unfortunately, my employment plans in Austin fell through, so I won't be there for the grand opening, but I don't think I'd want to wait in line for hours just to look at computers I've already seen before. Besides, they'd be out of free t-shirts by the time I would probably get there.

If anybody's going to the grand opening on the 12th, let us know. Also, us Austinites (although I'm not in Austin right now, so how about Austin & South Texanites) should schedule a miniature Geekfest Austin to celebrate the opening of our Apple store. I just don't know for sure when I'll be in Austin until August 17th, and from then on, it's LHB 24/7... I dunno, I might make a trip up there for fun...

update

So, I though I'd bump this thread, and see what my fellow Austinites think of the store!

Personally, I think it is great. I'd love to have a huge store like the one in Tokyo ;) but you can't always get what you want, now can ya? The sales people are nice, 'Jeff' helped my sister pick out her powerbook g4. I've been there twice and now I'm dead set on getting a job there some day.

hmmmm... How do you go about getting a job at an Apple store?

I passed thru there on vacation last week and thought the Barton Creek store was great. It seems a lot nicer and cleaner than the Houston Galleria store, but maybe that's only because it's newer. I'd say other than the Willow Bend (Plano) store, it's the nicest one in Texas.

Is there anyone who can check the mall within the next week or so? I figured out that I'll be going back to Austin at around the 15th or so...

The store in the Barton Creek mall is nice- I like how the computers are on tables in the middle rather than all off on the sides.

You're in Austin? Bah, I didn't know that. I was hanging out with my brother down there, but I went back to Carlsbad, NM to help out my mom. But I'm coming back to Austin in a couple weeks (to pick up my sister so we can take her to college).

The Austin apple store was cool. I went to the opening (around 10am or so?), and still got the free tshirt.

If you are looking into getting a job at an Apple Store you should check out www.ifoapplestore.com , up on the top where to logo is hes got some hiring tips and stuff which are really good. Not to mention you can check out the lastest rumors and news about upcoming store openings. I too went to the Austin Store and my whole family got shirts. I thought it was a well layed out store, the people there are really nice. Personally the store that I liked best was the Ala Moana Apple Store in Honolulu, the outdoor mall was a unique setting in a tropical paradise. :)
