Anyone noticed if they fixed auto-brightness in iOS6 so it automatically dims/brightens as conditions change without having to lock/unlock the phone? Before it would only brighten when going into sun but never auto dim unless I locked/unlocked the phone.

Apparently only the 4S and iPad 3 (can anyone verify that the iPad 2 doesn't have it?) have the real-time auto brightness. I wonder why the others don't have it.

IPad 3 here and it's not working for me. I'm on the latest beta

I've always wondered why the brightness wouldn't turn itself down unless we lock/unlock the device. Maybe it's a "feature".

This has been the case since iPhone OS 1.

I THINK I've come to realize that the Auto-Brightness learns from where you set it.

So, if you set it somewhere around high or max, then even when auto-brightness kicks in it still stays around high. Same for low.

I've never noticed setting it on low and then it going anywhere more than halfway.

That logic has seemed to change with iOS 6 beta 4. At least on my 4S.

If you hold it up to a bright light you don't see the bar move and the screen get brighter? When moving it away it doesn't get dim as fast as it did before, but if does decrease the brightness...

It works a treat on the iPhone 4S but on iPad 3 not as good.

Yes same here, not had any problems with auto brightness on iPhone 4S but it's been a constant problem on my iPad 3. It keeps going up and staying far too high
