Has anyone used auto-deletion of verification codes. If so, does it work? I’ve had this set up on my iPad and iPhone since several iterations back of OS’s and it has never ever worked!

yes. generally working.

it does delete the verification codes sent by SMS. im not sure about ones that come in Mail. for Mail it always seems i need to copy and paste.

in my experience, i have found that if i simply wait patiently for the SMS code and tap it when it appears in the popup widow, it will work, but, for Mail, it never enters the code automatically and also (therefore) never deletes the Mail automatically for me either.

however, if for SMS, although it usually does work, if i become impatient, and do a quick check and go to Messages to see if it has or hasnt arrived yet, then that action will sometimes prevent the code from being able to be entered automatically, it seems.
also, since, as the feature, as is intended, if you do get a code, and some how try to get it entered, but fail, then of course the SMS will be deleted and you need to start over again

i have also found the degree of smoothness is really controlled by the way the app is written to handle such a code.
it seems some apps handle it all very quickly and automatically but other apps not so well.
so if it doesn't work, its probably not apple's fault.

Has worked flawlessly for me since introduced, and continued so through the iOS 26 betas to 26.1 RC. No issues with the new filtering in Messages in 26, and even doing the autofill on my Mac it deletes fine.

If for any reason I manually enter it, then the code won't auto-delete.
Exactly. And it’s highly dependent on the sender. I’ve had many that did not trigger the automated popup, and others that could not be autofilled into a particular site and have to be manually entered. If all the stars align properly the autofilling and deletion work very well, but it’s a toss up as to whether that alignment will occur.

Usually works ok for me EXCEPT if the message or email gets classed as spam or junk. You just have to wait a minute for safari or the app to pick-up/read the message.

It has gotten better recently.

Just today I had one site that wouldn’t accept the autofill of the sent code. Unfortunately, tapping on the code at the bottom of the screen caused it to be deleted from Messages, and I had not memorized it before it disappeared, so I had to get the site to send another code and then manually entered it into the field, got into the site, and then had to go to Messages to delete the code message. As I said, sometimes the stars align, and sometimes they don’t.

I've had that happen too. It's uncommon enough that I haven't changed my behavior - the VAST majority of times it works fine; if it doesn't then oh well, I have to request a new code.

Overall it works quite well for me.

Both iMessages and email work fine but have quirks and of course, doesn't work with every website but most. With iMessages, the text may not delete across devices if you don't give it enough time after receiving the code. I typically wait 5 seconds after receiving the code to using it and having it auto delete. With email, it usually takes a little longer and is more likely to go into the Junk mail folder, in which you won't get the code to auto enter in Safari.

The deleted message doesn't disappear as such; it goes to the "Recently Deleted" folder. You can open that to see the code that got auto-deleted.
