Auto lock and screen dimming question

Question for you iOS gurus: For each auto lock setting (30s/1m/2m/etc), after how many seconds does the screen dim (not black, just dim)? Is it a set amount of time, or relative to the auto lock setting?

That doesn't seem to be the case for me. Seems to vary depending upon my auto lock setting, but not sure. Not even sure that the time before dimming is consistent.

I remember testing 1 min and 30 sec a while back. I think it was half of the set amount of time. So 30 sec if 1 min is set etc.
