Hi All,

In lion some applications will auto-open all previously open files when they are started.

To me this is just an irritation as, for example, preview will happily open a file that I have put in the trash can !

Is there a way to block the auto-open, I just want the app to start, and forget about previously opened files.

Note : the subject is not the same as the "reopen windows.." of the log-out/log-in screen

Any advice welcome.

What you're experiencing is a feature of Lion called "Resume".
It reopens all previously open windows when you launch an app.

To stop this,

- Close all open windows in the app before you quit.
If you do this, the windows won't reopen when you launch the app again.

- Turn off resume altogether
Go to System Preferences > General > and uncheck the box that says "Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps"

Hope this helps

100% perfect !

Thanks.

Frankly I fail to see the use of "resume", particularly when it oversteps other functionality such as that of opening files that are in the trash can. Looks more to me like a nifty technical trick that a developer wanted to show off...
