Anybody else have issues with the MR text entry getting really wonky when you try to backspace and edit words? I’ve got all manner of autocomplete issues with MR, but it goes to a whole other level if I try to edit partial words. I don’t see another thread on this, so I’m starting to wonder if I’m the only one.

I haven’t noticed in particular. Are you talking about iPhone or desktop browser?

iPad, mainly…. Most often it manifests as random capitalization, but sometimes I get something much more bizarre and can’t get past it until I delete the whole word and start over.

That sounds less like a website phenonium and more of a client issue

Yes! I have had this issue for ages on macrumors since the last major overhaul, and a couple other forums that use the same software.

when typing on a forum, it won’t auto capitalize words, or autocorrect many misspellings, and when backspaceing, it’ll behave erratically and double backspacing spaces when erasing whole words. It’s hard to describe. It’s been a frustrating experience and I’ve largely avoided replying to threads on my iPhone because of it.

im replying using my iPhone, and you can see how the first word of each new paragraph isgnores any autocorrect. (Such as capitalizing “I” and adding the apostrophe to “I’m.”

im running iOS 15, using Safari… but this has happened on iOS 14, 13… as long as this latest major forum overhaul has been in existence. Happens on iPad and iPhone.

I think Tonymacx86 has the same issue, as it runs the same forum software. Something like TurboBricks does not, as they’re still running the older BB forum software.

The problem is the forum software. Arn has said there really isn't anything he can do about it. I suggest you keep the BB code option turned off unless you need it during the post. That will remove the problems with auto correct and radon capitalization etc.

Thanks, I'll see if that helps...

It may be an interaction between the two (iPad autocorrect fighting the forum's autocorrect?), but I'd expect that Safari on iPad is a common client around here.

The weird thing is I don’t have this problem on my iPhone. Just my iPad. 🤔

I have the problem on Mac, iPad, and iPhone.
I don’t notice it on Mac, but maybe that’s because typing is less effort for me there.

I wonder if it’s two dueling correction mechanisms— iOS trying to help and the forum text entry trying to help.

What is the BB code option and how do you turn it off?

I assume he means the pair of brackets [ ] that are shown when you click on the three dots at the top right of the edit window. You will lose all the features on the toolbar for styling text when BB Code is disabled (they will be "grayed out"). Click the brackets again to get them back.
