Autocorrect is really terrible now

This is specific to iMessage for me.

I don't know what's going on the past few years or iOS releases, but it's just terrible now. It changes perfectly fine words into completely different words and adds punctuation, it's just horrible. I typed the word "funky" and it changed it to "dinky" It also changes errors into completely different words that don't even have the same characters. Is this AI? lol. It worked so much better like 3-4 releases ago.

I don't know what's going on or what Apple changed, almost all of my simple typo errors turn into something so bad, I have to edit the line or retype it.

This exact issue has been pointed out many times of late. You are absolutely right.

God only knows what is going on with Apple and their punctuation, changing of words, random capitalisation of words but it is no longer fit for purpose. And people are putting stock in AI specifically Apple’s version… LOL they can’t get the basics right! It truly is pathetic and inexcusable!

quoting you because i've experienced this in the same time frame as you. one update and bam! weird words, it will auto select a word for no reason, the gibberish words it recommends to auto correct... resetting the dictionary does nothing. ive been noticing this since the 14 pm.
 
It is universally atrocious but mostly on normal searches (where it is disabled it seems and the keyboard seems to have no understanding of the language you mode you are in ) and in Social media apps, where sometimes it seems to works acceptably and other times seems to choose words that don't exist at all in say English. For me this is the worst aspect of using Apple products at the moment and I started in 2007 with my first iMac.
 
As someone who has used Apple Products since 2011 … the auto correct is one of my bigger complaints. Like others have already stated - the auto-correct to non-English words, absolute mangling of what I’m trying to type, and for me - whenever I go to tap the letter n on the phone it hits the space bar despite my thumb being on the n key.

I avoid typing on the iPhone as much as I can. To type this I’ve got a Bluetooth keyboard via my iPad and even auto-correct can sometimes mangle that.

I’ve got high hopes for 27…
 
And dictation is equally as bad.

I could speak something like “it was a cold dark night” and it would write “it’s was a cold dark knight”.

It also incorrectly capitalises the Odd word within A sentence.

I typed in "iPhone" and it wrote "eyefoam". Just kidding there hahahahee - but (seriously) if autocorrect is that messed up, can't it just be disabled from the keyboard menu in Settings? Might end a headache or two . . .
 
You pretty much have to use the dictionary and customize word replacements. I had to do this for all cuss words, insults, slang. etc. Words I commonly used to force it to shorthand my not so polite words.

Goto Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Keyboard Dictionary

This will start you out fresh and it won't keep changing words that are spelled correctly and making the same mistakes. However it won't permanently fix it, if you mistype something a few types the same way it will think that is the way you want it to be.

It's just bad, really bad. This is me typing to a friend about it and it changes we'll to well and well to we'll back to back. Often it will make sentences nonsensical very often.

 
100%, Is there not a way to use AI to correct this crazy problem? I can bearly put in a few words and get great detail from my AI on any question, With apple I can say exactly what I want and it wll destroy my meaning, often to the opposite of what I typed. It has on occasion changed my words when I hit send. I have looked at samsung phones, really getting tired of the poor use, extra time required to use my phone.

I agree with all of this, unfortunately.

When the first iOS 27 beta came out with enhanced dictation, there was a vast improvement. Now it is as bad, if not worse than the version in iOS 26 and prior.

I cannot understand how Apple can’t sort out something so fundamentally simple and basic that other manufacturers have got down perfectly.
