Autocorrect not working properly with multiple languages?

I use English as primary language and French secondary. In iOS16 I was able to type any words in English or French and it would properly autocorrect whatever was the language. In iOS17 I have to specifically select the keyboard language by pressing the lower left side earth, in order to properly autocorrect the desired words. Is there a new setting that I need to enable?

Switching to French keyboard: j’ai vu le dernier exemple.

This used to be done automatically, no matter what keyboard I had selected.

Edit: the spelling works properly on both English and French languages, if the selected keyboard is French. Typing everything now with French keyboard.

Mine works with English & German both ways, regardless of which keyboard is selected. I remember every time when I get a new iPhone it's bugged for a couple of weeks until it somehow learns the language preference again.

I've found that if you select the languages you want to use under Language and Region and then delete the keyboards of those languages only keeping the one that matches your main device language it works instantly and without issues all the time. Also check that the dictionaries of the languages you wan't to use are downloaded.

Your suggestion definitely works with two languages. If I have two languages selected, I keep only the English keyboard and it will type in both French and English without any issues. As soon as I add a third language, everything breaks. Whatever is that language, it will not autocorrect anymore for anything that is not the main language.

If I add the French keyboard it will autocorrect both English and French from English keyboard, which is the behavior I had before, thanks to you is now fixed.

The only way I managed to autocorrect the third language is to add the specific keyboard and select that keyboard prior typing, then it will work properly.
