My auto backup hasn't worked since iOS8. Manual backups work fine. I have heard that deleting the backup entirely and then re-backing up usually fixes this problem. As I have a 1Mbps upload speed and a 21GB backup I think I'll give that idea a miss...

Ditto. I manually removed the backup, rebooted and then ran a manual backup, which was painful due to upload speed and backup size.

Will be monitoring it over the next few days to check it is running properly.

If you head into Settings -- iCloud -- Storage -- Manage Storage, you'll see your devices and if you tap onto it you'll be able to delete it.

Once deleted I would suggest switching off iCloud backup (Settings -- iCloud -- Backup) and rebooting your phone.

Once rebooted you can head back to iCloud backup, switch it back on and then manually backup.

Mine quit working too when I upgraded to 9.0.2. I got it working on 9.0.1 by deleting the backup and doing a manual backup. After that it backed up automatically every night. Once I upgraded to 9.0.2 it stopped again and haven't had any luck backing up manually so I've switched to iTunes until Apple gets this fixed. What a pain in the butt!

This has only been on my 6s the iPad has been fine.

I thought it was going to work last night. I forced a manual backup and it started counting down so I went to bed with it plugged into the charger. When I woke up this morning I noticed it failed again. Never been an iTunes fan but at least it works. I guess I need to set it up to backup on wifi to the pc now.

I deleted my backup last night and set my phone up as new, with the intention of trying to cure this bug by starting afresh and creating a new backup. However, despite zero backups being listed for any devices, I am still some 12GB down on my 50GB iCloud storage space. How can this be? There is nothing else to delete!

Do you have another iDevice signed into iCloud where you could check if the backup has actually been deleted?

Did you try removing the backup and manually completing one?

It does worked just fine. I was going to do manual backup but my iPad Air says it has been backup last night.

Despite my attempts my iPhone is no longer backing up automatically.

This along with other issues leads me to announce that I've never been so disappointed with an iOS release.

In all the iOS updates I have never been affected by an issue that's being addressed.

    I fixed my iphone.
You have to delete the last icloud backup, and then restart your phone, and then hit update.

Settings>iCloud>manage storage>backups>go to the bottom & Delete Backup.

Glad to find this thread. My old phone (5c) stopped backing up to iCloud completely a few weeks ago -- neither automatic nor manual backups would work (when I tried a manual backup, I would get a "Backup failed" msg. with no other info). Plenty of free space in iCloud, strong Wifi signal, etc.

Got a new phone (6S) on Monday. Set up as new. Manual backups work, but not auto. Tried deleting the old phone's (5c) last backup file from iCloud, in case it was corrupted somehow and creating an issues - no dice. Also deleted the (tiny) backup file for the iPad I use for work - also no dice.

Called AppleCare y'day - they said it's "not a known issue". Suggested I try a hard reboot (which I had already tried), or wiping the new phone and restoring from an iTunes backup. I did the latter - still did not fix.

I figure either my iCloud account is somehow gummed up, or it's an iOS 9 issue. Apparently "not a known issue," though. Hmm..

My 6+ rarely auto-backed up either. For me this issue started with iOS8 and has continued onto the 6S+ with iOS9. Deleting my backup and starting again didn't help either, in fact it added to my woes as now a fresh iCloud backup made on this phone won't fully install back onto the phone when I do an 'erase all content & settings'. Something is amiss.

Yeah, and the funny thing is, I don't necessarily know how consistent the auto backups were under iOS8 (on the old phone); I rarely checked them to "confirm" until I was preparing to switch to new phone, and found that I could no longer back up after 9/28. Now I'm tuned in to the issue...

Update: auto backup now also not working on my iPad. If anything, deleting the most recent backup file for that device broke auto backup rather than fixed anything (on the iPhone).

Also, when I first tried manually backing up phone y'day, I got a failure msg that said "Unable to Connect to iCloud Server." Never saw that before. Backup worked the second time.

I wonder if a particular app I have installed (on both devices) is interfering somehow w/auto backup. But I don't have many apps installed...

Another one for automatic backups failing, they were working then stopped..

I've tried everything from DFU restore to a different iCloud account that I just created and nothing has worked.

Ah well, whatever. I think it's safe to say that iCloud is an unreliable piece of **** at the best of times.
