I have searched the forums and found many threads about similar topics, but nothing quite like my problem:
Having heard other users posting that while having your Time machine disk plugged in the computer will not automatically sleep. I have my computer set to go to sleep after inactivity lasting 7 minutes, but nothing happens. If this is because of Time Machine, is there a fix? My computer does sleep when I select Apple menu> Sleep, or pressing the power button and then clicking Sleep, so it is not that my system doesn't sleep.
This is a MacBook (May 2007), see signature below.

has not released a fix, seems fairly common among users.
