automatic updates - permissions problem

Hi folks,

I have several programs that check for updates and install them when available, internal to the program. At some point that mechanism stopped working across the board; instead of letting the apps do an update and relaunch themselves, I have to close them, download the update manually, and re-install over the previous version.

My apple automatic system updates are working fine.

I'm on an account with admin privileges, under leopard.

Any ideas?
