Is this supposed to work on a treadmill too or does it need GPS to sense movement? After a 30 minute run on the treadmill, got nothing for it in the activity app under workouts. Never got a the notification that a workout was auto detected either.

Same here: I've never, ever, ever received an auto workout notification. And that's after x amount of time on the exercise bike, or doing weights.

Conversely I saw a thread here where somebody was getting the notification when brushing their teeth. It seems pretty intermittent, to say the least.

I've got the workout app set on the face so I just press it when I want to start, which doesn't bother me particularly, but I appreciate that might not be ideal.

Same here, the other day, I decided to give it a test on my Series 4, and while a one minute trip to the coffee maker, and pouring a cup of coffee got me a minute's worth of exercise, an hour of shoveling snow gained absolutely nothing. My heart rate was in a solid zone 3 during most of the shoveling, as I wanted to see if the notification worked, so I hit it pretty hard. Nothing for the snow, a minute for the coffee; go figure.

Nah man, it's just that coffee's more strenuous as an activity. Hit it hard and watch the pounds fly off!

Yes, it does work on a treadmill too. With my watch, in every case, it's always after at least 13 minutes of continuous work (jumping around, walking, etc.), and it adds about 10 minutes previous to the moment it asks if you are working out.

It must depend on the intensity of the work out (range of movement, heart frecuency?), because at least twice I've walked for at least 20 minutes without the detection kicking in. One of those times, the walk was mild paced and frequently interrupted (I was walking the dog), the other was in the treadmill, and was also slow.

Outdoor walk worked one time. I walk 2 miles every morning and it simply doesn’t work.

It seems very hit and miss for me. Sometimes I will be walking where I didn't start a "workout," because I just happened to be walking and it will pop up asking me if I am doing an outdoor walk. Other times I will be taking the dogs for a 3 mile walk or something and I will forget to set it and it won't ask.

Maybe it takes into consideration the difference between previos level of activity and the workout. I was just dancing a few moments ago and it detected it after 11 minutes. Previously I was sitting.

My walk is from practically sleep. 6:20am, up and dressed, 6:30am out the door for 2 miles. It might be that it wants your heart rate over say, 110 or 120 and mine might not be because, well, I'm still sort of asleep :/
