My phone has great 3g and Edge reception depending on where I am. My general location is outside of Philly. I have gotten 1.5 mbs with 3g, which is pretty darn good. Edge got me around 250k. My problem arises while making calls. I notice that if I am in a 3g area my phone will use that to make a call. While driving out of 3g range it has trouble changing to Edge on the fly. It has dropped some calls. If I pull the car over and turn off 3g edge will load up in 5 seconds and I can make the call and reception is great. Overall the reception and clarity is great but going out of a 3g area causes problems. I was wondering if anyone has this problem. I tried turning off 3g and driving around and things were fine. I don't mind doing this but figured the transition between the two would be better.

P.S. My Verizon phone would ALWAYS lose reception where I am dropping calls now with my Iphone. Where the ATT is better is when I turn off the 3g and EDGE will pick up full quality. I may just be in a real bad area where either phone would struggle. I just am confused why it can't switch faster in call to EDGE if it has 4-5 bars.

    Any info helps.

I could be wrong, but 3G has nothing to do with calls. It's seperate from your call, so leaving or entering a 3G area shouldn't affect it.

Your phone doesn't "use" 3G for a call. It's data only.

    Sorry but that is incorrect.

"Since 3G networks enable simultaneous data and voice, you can talk on the phone while surfing the web, checking email, or using Maps. All from your 3G cellular network."

Scott is incorrect. 3G is data and call quality. When 3g is on, ur gettin 3g voice and data.

How come then the phone seems to have trouble switching from 3g to edge on the fly when there is excellent edge coverage but lacking 3g. It seems like the phone is trying to eek out a connection with 3g instead of jump off to the better EDGe connection in my case.
