Ok this is what I want to accopmlish. I want to open a certain application and as I open that app I want to have something tell either automator or a script to copy a file and paste it somewhere. I have go the workflow for automator for the copying , but I cant really assign it to a certain program at launch, any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks.

Instead of opening the application manually, you could build a workflow that opens the application for you and then does the copying

Or, you could use Quickeys. Quickeys can trigger from all kinds of events, including applications starting. It would be trivial to do what you want with Quickeys. It does cost money though, but it works well.
