AV1 encode and decode ? Can the M1 Mini do this ?

Before I buy I needed to know if the new M1 MacMini can encode and decode AV1 codec. Thank you.

Maybe, or maybe not. macOS does not expose any AV1 hardware encoder or decoder, so while the M1 could have one, it can't be known.

But both can be done in software. Unfortunately AV1 encoders are quite horrible at the moment.

AV1 encoding is slow. At least, that was the status quo. Now we have SVT-AV1, backed by Intel and Netflix.
