Ever since mail came out with categories my mail sucks, I don't get notifications hardly anymore, I have looked everywhere how to fix it but nothing. I would go back to before categories if I could.
That info is easy to find; even Siri will tell you how.

My opinion of a company, how it thinks and 'moves', is largely based on its advertisements to the public. Using what sounds like a high school female with vocal drag to tell me about the product was a step in the wrong direction. Admittedly, I detest listening to any woman who uses vocal drag and sounds like she is a step up from the 'valley girl' speak. That entire ad was just a bad idea, and I do not see where it helps Apple.

  • Clean Up in Photos: not generative. It sucks.
  • Genmoji: useless if you are over 4yo.
  • Image Playground: Useless if you are over 2yo.
  • Mail Summaries: a mess.
  • Writing Tools: useless if you have half a brain.
  • Visual Intelligence: pretty cool, thanks to open AI not to Apple.
  • ChatGPT integration: a mess, can’t follow up properly, you touch the wrong part of the screen and it closes, they only did the UI and it is a mess.

That sums up this situation very nicely. I need adult features, not eye candy for children, or features for users who cannot think critically.

Having tried all of these, here are my thoughts, Apple:

This is precisely what I did. Ive been an early adopter of almost all technologies. I’ve been using Apple computers since 1995 when I got an Apple IIe. I’ve been playing with AI for a long time too. Shoving this into everything is just strange. It’s really half baked in most use cases. I have copilot through all of my work computer and apps. It’s an excellent improvement on email search. It’s good to pull basic company and industry info before a client meeting. But beyond that, all current implementations are completely not fit for purpose (for reference, I’m a lawyer, and so for work, words matter). I found apples implementation even worse than Microsoft’s. Really inaccurate. Sure sometimes it’s right. But often not. So if it’s wrong sometimes and I need to check the source, it’s actually made things less convenient. However, ultimately, it was the new Siri animation that got me to turn Apple AI all the way off. I just never got used to it.

In general, those features are okay. But all the hype from last year's WWDC and iPhone 16 ruined the experience. I believe people in this video are much less motivated than Craig at WWDC when introducing each feature of Apple Intelligence.

Photo cleanup is the only 'AI' feature I actually found useful. Everything else is annoying, seems built for kids, or broken.

I wish you could toggle 'AI' features on/off individually versus the current all-or-nothing approach. I hate 'AI' showing up in Messages when all I want to use it for is, say, Photo cleanup.

Photos cleanup has been really useful to me. I recently scanned old photos that had dust and smudges either from the photo or the scanner. This new feature was able to get rid of the vast majority of those issues so the photos look more crisp and clean.

Shockingly enough, I actually found a use for visual intelligence while visiting Rome. I'd point it at a monument or structure and it would identify it and give me a summary of what it was and when it was built. Not all structures had placards that put them into context. It did misidentify a few bridges though. Still, not bad and genuinely useful to me.

The video made my eyes glaze over. I thought AI was supposed to be intelligent! I don’t want to have to remember which of 35 ways I need to access it for this instance. It should just be one button and then have it clarify any direction it needs from you. Otherwise just DO IT!

Artificial Intelligence is a dramatic leap forward in computing and Apple have chosen to use it for childish toys like Genmoji and Image Playground. Absolutely pathetic.
From what I have seen so fare, I am not convinced it is a dramatic leap forward in computing, well certainly not what we as normal consumers have seen.

From what I have seen of or heard of ChatGPT, Gemini, apple intelligence, copilot, Claude or any other Ai stuff like them, i have not seen anything to impress me, certainly with the mistakes they make.

I think the advances will be more prevalent behind the scenes. AI is already making a difference in medical research. I was reading yesterday about lawyers using AI to dramatically reduce the time necessary to prepare for legal cases.

Oh man, Not a great move, they're just asking for more backlash IMO.

If they were smart...Apple would not speak of the Apple Intelligence again. At least for now... until they get it - totally - together!

It’s actually smart as this is directed at average customers. Most likely don’t know features are being delayed so they just seen these ones

i had never heard of "vocal drag" but i looked it up using Gemini AI.
so now i know it. thanks to Gemini AI.

that aside, you have a good point about the "voice" that is used within ads.
if we dont see ourselves in the ad, then its possible we might think that feature is not for me.

still, i would have characterised the voice in this ad as using mildly "vocal fry". however.
which, to me, in all honesty, is annoying.

I have of ways that AI is being used and no doubt it is different to what we see, still not sure if ii want to rely on it for anything important.

I have heard the term "vocal fry" as well, but, I have seen them used interchangably. Ads that use "fry" or "drag" are targeting a younger generation, mostly under 30. There is an entire psychology around its use by women, but this is not the place to discuss that. :)
