I have installed Avast on my MacPro on one bootable drive and it warns that Drive Genius 5.3.1 is infected by malware. I bought Drive Genius in the past. I get this message from Avast:
"We've blocked Drive Genius because it was infected with MacOS PuAgent-BU [PUP]"
Is this a false warning or should I trust Avast?
TIA

A PUP is a Potentially Unwanted Program. Meaning there isn't anything known to be harmful about it. But it may not be something you want.

This is how Malwarebytes defines a PUP
- They may have been installed without the user’s consent.
- They may be supported by aggressive advertisements.
- They may be bundlers or part of a bundle.
- They may be misleading or offer a false sense of security.

It's ironic the Avast doesn't detect itself as a PUP. Given that their free AV has met all four criteria over the years. By adding bloatware programs. Without asking you when the AV updates. Plus the constant popups. Not sure if that's still the case. I dumped them years ago on Windows after they started installing additional programs I never asked for.
