Is anyone else puzzled by the decision to use Papyrus (or something very similar) for the Avatar movie logo?

Puzzled? Kind of but you never know whether they've outsourced their logo design to some kid down the street. ;)

It's subtly different enough from Papyrus that I think it works.

Of course, I'm the guy with an ego so large that I think I could use Comic Sans successfully....

which avatar is it? the last air bender would suit that font quite nicely as its set more in an ancient time, if its that cg thing then I can't see it working so well.

The reason they used Papyrus is because they outsource the logo design to the Creative Director's next door neighbour's 15 year old son.

Personally I think it was $50 well spent.

It seems to fit the mood of the movie just fine. I think people are too quick to dismiss certain fonts or font families because they feel a font is overused. People were paid good money to use that "overused" font and for a lot of products, that "overused" font sold a lot of product.

The best one I've heard is Helvetica being cursed as being a "Chili Can Font."
