You need to transcode the footage into another codec because AVCHD isn't supported yet.

Well, most likely FCP 6 will be introduced next Sunday at NAB. Then you might know for sure.

how do i transcode? mac don't even read avchd files.

Granted it's still early, but AFAIK there is no announced support for AVCHD.
