AVCHD camera playback vs iMovie import

Anyone here blown away with their HD camera and not so much with their iMovie playback? I've been playing around with different import/export settings on my AVCHD camera and it just is no where near as good as the original.
 
Update -- something isn't right. When hooking up the projector to my MBP the best resolution I can find in the display preference is 900i and it doesn't want to output using a non interlaced resolution. Not sure what's the deal yet.
