Average Macbook Pro Startup Time?

You have to say what your OS is, it changes it a lot.

I have the newest, maxed 15" rMBP (with Mavericks obviously) and my start time is ~12 seconds.

I have the newest, maxed 15" rMBP (with Mavericks obviously) and my start time is ~32 seconds. I really want to try to get it down.

Unless you use Boot Camp or some other tool to dual/triple boot between Mac OSX, Windows and/or Linux, you can down your boot time to one second if you use the SLEEP feature.

The computer sleeps when you close the lid or go to :apple: > Sleep.
But if you experience those startup times, then it is probably due to re-booting the Mac in order to start the other OS.

Duh, I know that, my computer is sleeping all the time when I'm not using it. The shutdown time still is a big deal if you want to boot into Windows or you have just installed something that needs a reboot.

But I made a mistake, my shutdown time is ~32 seconds and my startup time is ~12 seconds. I'm fine with the startup, but I would like the shutdown to be better.

rMBP 13, 2.4GHz, 16GB, 256GB.

Just received with iWorks and very few software installed (no more than 5GB).

Boot Time: ~15 seconds.

It took longer the first time I started it up because it had to go through some setting. but now it's about 15 seconds. on par with my expectation.

late 2013 MBP with 512 SSD, Mavericks, a few installed apps (adobe suite, mysql, apache etc) I get ~15-18 second start time.

early-2013 rMBP: fast enough
late-2009 Unibody white MB with EVO SSD: fast enough too

Don't know which one is faster.

My 2014 15-inch takes about 1.5 minutes to start. To be fair, it has a Thunderbolt 2 dock, 1 or 2 USB hubs, 5-7 external hard drives, 1-5 flash drives, 3 printers, 2 displays, and several other accessories connected to it, and about 10 programs that load on startup. :p

My 2016 13-inch takes about 10-13-ish seconds, as does my Surface Pro 3 (not counting the time it takes me to type in the password.)

I just tested this. From completely shut down, it took 8.4 seconds to get to the password entry screen. I paused it, put in my password, and restarted the timer as I hit enter. From password entry to completed startup it took another 12.3 seconds. So a total of 20.7 seconds.

My MBP is a 2017 15" Touch Bar with 2.7GHz, 16GB ram, Radeon Pro 455.

I'm assuming all of these times is with FileVault enabled? Because the time to get to the log in screen is different with and without file vault. With FileVault, it gets to the startup screen before the loading bar appears.
