i have downloaded a few little .avi video clips from the internet and everytime I try and open them in QuickTime 7.0.4, it tells me that some software needed to play it is missing. where can I find this "missing" software?

Silly question, but is it possible to add the codecs that VLC evidentially has that allows it to play AVI files and add them to QuickTime? I would much prefer to use QuickTime since I tend to find the VLC interface a bit quirky.
Not from VLC but you can grab the divx codec from http://www.divx.com/ or the 3ivx codec from http://www.3ivx.com/.
