I have an .avi file someone has sent me, and the audio won't play in Quicktime Player, only the video. However, both the video and audio work in VLC player. My problem is that I need to import the file to a project in DVD Studio Pro, to be burned to dvd. When I do that, the audio doesn't work. Am I missing a codec? Am I an idiot? I've never encountered this before. Thanks for any suggestions.

Enable Video

Open the movie in QuickTime.
In the window menu select 'Movie Properties'
Check to see if the codec is identified. If it is, make sure you have the codec.
Check to see if 'Enable Video' is checked.

Translation between formats has always been a problem with working between computers. Arrange compatible format use before the exchange of files.

you can do the same thing in VLC... hit apple + i to get info for it and see what the audio codec is. At that point you can then look for that codec and install it for quicktime. You can also do transcodes directly from VLC if necessary.
