.avi files w/ no sound

Ok, so when I open .avi files with Quicktime Pro, most of them play fine, but there are a few that have no sound

BUT

when i open the soundless ones with VLC, they are just fine...

could anyone offer an explanation for this?

Install Perian and return with results from Quicktime.

no dice...but the divx preference pane is still there, how can I tell which one is doing the work?

or can I remove the divx preference pane


edit: nevermind, i figured out how to get rid of divx and its all working now, thanks

I've got all the other codecs Apple features; nothing worked.
VLC works, but you can't edit; exports fail or crash VLC.

Forget VLC.

This works.
