i have a couple avi files with no sound. when i open them, quicktime directs me to apple.com/quicktime/resources/components
i have no idea which software i need.
can anyone help?
i have quicktime 7.1.3 on my g4 osx 10.3.9

Try vlc (video lan control).

It will open pretty much anything on a mac, properly. Also you may want to make sure that you install the divx codec. Both are free and should be easy to google. I can now watch most avis.

i managed!

I also had issues, installed a number of tools and codecs, including Perian, but I finally managed when I downloaded AC3 Codec.component and placed it in the QuickTime library - maybe I had too much stuff installed to get Perian to work, but the AC3 - problem solved!
