I've generally really been enjoying the Apple Vision Pro so far. I've been using VR headsets since the early prototypes, and Apple's first-gen is quite impressive. Most of the complaints I've heard are just typical VR technology nuances (such as glare) that we can only hope to get better as the technology evolves.

My overall goal of AVP is to have it be a workable environment to work and be productive in, from just about anywhere. I only see this being possible with a mirrored mac, keyboard and mouse. I've never been one to be productive on iOS alone, and visionOS might have the same crippling problem. I do really enjoy not being confined to a defined space though. I can easily roam around scattering windows and apps everywhere.

That said, I've started to come up with some of my "wishlist" items for the OS and the headset.

  • Being able to make windows smaller. I've dialed them down to the smallest allowed, but they are still generally too big. I suppose with a larger physical space I could put them "further away" but that's not really a solution. I suppose this is mostly for eye tracking control, but if I have a keyboard/mouse, I'd prefer them to be much smaller.
  • Multiple virtual Mac monitors. Probably just a bandwidth issue. Maybe?
  • Having some sort of home menu hand gesture would be nice. Having to reach up to open the menu when a simple gesture would work is kinda annoying.
  • Being able to turn off hand visibility in immersive environments would be nice. It's distracting when you are just trying to watch a movie in the throne room.
  • Wireless charging for the battery pack would be have been nice. Not all that effective, but when I put down the headset it would be nice to also simply put the battery on a pad to have it trickle up a bit.
  • Although I personally haven't experienced it much, the front display seems too dim. Most people seeing my eyes always say it's just too dim. But... tradeoff would be battery, probably.
  • I'm sure it's coming but the ability to reorder apps. Guess they ran out of time for that one.
  • The pass-through is quite good. Easily the best I've used. But it still seems to be at a lower resolution than the cameras judging by the spatial videos you can record. Maybe they can optimize it further so higher resolution can be passed through. Maybe it really is a hardware limitation for this generation though.
That's about all I got off the top of my head. Nothing has become a deal breaker for me and a lot can just improve over time with software. What other "wishlist" items do you'all have?

Some items for me would be

  1. unified messaging app that uses apis to connect with other messaging
  2. Gesture to close all windows
  3. Immersive mode for safari. Hate to say disappointed can’t really use immersive porn on porn hub
  4. For v2 of avp maybe some way to wear with glasses
  5. Some hand controls for games like meta quest
  6. Strike a deal with more streaming apps (YouTube, YouTube tv, direct stream, etc) to get them on here

Close all windows... that's a good idea. Along those lines, it would be great to have "stage manager" so you can change what windows and apps are open in an area.

Having the ability to use standard VR video formats seems like a no-brainer (for such sites that would benefit from them). Most apps that are directly related to such sites have to be side-loaded even on the quest headsets. But hopefully Apple will at least allow generic apps like DeoVR. I doubt it though.

I thought of another... putting in some really cool "handoff" from iOS would be awesome. Imagine looking at your phone and bringing in the same view into your headset. This is only something Apple could pull off, probably not super easy though.

Not a gesture but Siri close all apps works to clean up the screen when I want to watch a movie.

I want the option for windows to follow me wherever I go. I was trying to make cleaning the house more enjoyable by using the Vision Pro. The only thing I hate is that I have to drag the window with me when I'm moving to a different space.

And Casey Niestat tried watching on the subway and it couldn’t figure out he was in a moving vehicle. His windows kept disappearing with a message about motion. May have worked with travel mode enabled who knows.

Simple yet brilliant. Pinned apps.

Agree on all of this. On the home menu hand gesture, you can look up, click control center, and then click the app icon to get back to the Home Screen. Not a simple gesture but far better than having to reach up and find the button for me

That's not bad. Still need a gesture though... how about bringing your hands together and then apart again? Like a slow clap... the menu would reveal as you move your hands apart. You can even say "Alakazam!" each time it appears out of nowhere! What a time to be alive!

visionOS really seems like it would be the ideal candidate for Stage Manager. Hoping that makes an appearance with version 2.0. Couple that with some options for having windows follow you around or stay pinned to the same spot in a room whenever you enter it, and you’d have the best window management system of any AR/VR device.

And found an article to enable Webxr for immersive video in safari. I’ll enable it and see if this works after.
I enabled Webxr on Safari but it didn’t work on Porn hub I think porn hub just checks what browser is running , instead of checking for Webxr. However, it did work on VRSmash (kinda). The downside is that it didn’t detect my finger taps. Instead, I had to look at each control or menu item for 3 seconds to “click” on it. I haven’t tried any other sites yet .

Same I don’t think they use webxr. I found a test page and web xr was full 360 immersive. Tried some games and like many questionable porn sites they caused safari to crash. Probably neither optimized for it, these are experimental features in safari, plus just too resource intensive without optimization.

Note to Apple. We need:

1. Window management. We need to have an organized way to set window positions, maintain persistent window positions or recall previous after shut down. Launch multi window configs without manual tweaking. It is essentially impossible to get a symmetrical window configuration for multiple windows as it is. I would like to be able to open a new window and clone aspect ratio from a previous window, snap to previous at the same scale with some padding, open blank presets and drag windows into those configurations, etc.

2. We need a virtual trackpad or similar, which allows that app to be positioned at a distance while maintaining the input device by our hand. As it stands, we can bring an app close in and manually interact with the app, but that limits the size of the app and somewhat defeats the purpose. By keeping a virtual input device nearby, but allowing the app to be at the distance and scalable, we would achieve both goals. I am envisioning virtual device or devices that could be used on a solid surface as an option to the air gestures used for control now.

Possibly these will be solved by app developers, but Apple really needs to tackle these as well.

If you want to suggest something to Apple, maybe use their feedback form?
Oh, believe me, they are sick of hearing from me :). My intention here is to see if others are having the same issues and learn what their suggestions and priorities might be. Thanks for your comment!

I just want to get my cataract issue resolved so I can go try one out for myself. Don’t think having one blind eye will work well with the Vision Pro. :(

I’m legally blind in one eye and it works fine. The only thing that doesn’t really work well are 3D movies, but those don’t work for me in real life either. I have no problem experiencing the immersive videos however.
