Does Gmail update on my watch only when I'm near my phone because that's what it appears to be doing. Somehow, I thought mail would be upadated independently with LTE on my watch. No?

Can you elaborate please on what you mean by “update ”? And which app you’re using.

Using gmail through the watch's mail app. App updates correctly when the watch is in contact with the phone but not when the phone is on its own.
