With the new ones, like Series 10, and a SIM can you for example order an Uber through the watch without the need of the phone?
Can it do practically the same things as lugging around your iPhone? What are the exact limitations?
Thanks

What specifically are the limitations of the Watch compared to the iPhone? Could you go out with just the Watch without the need of the phone? What are some important things which you can’t do solely with the watch?

Uber got rid of their Apple Watch app, so you can no longer do this. You're limited by Apple Watch apps created by the vendors.

Could you go out without your phone? It depends. Can't take photos while you're out since there is no camera. Can't order an Uber while you're out since there is no app. Can't modify a spreadsheet on your watch, again no app. The battery life is also far more limited compare to a phone. You could spend an hour on the phone without killing the battery but an hour on the phone through the watch will hammer it badly.

I don't take my phone with me when I run, but that means I can't do those things. I can still make/take a call, send/receive texts, listen to music etc., but it's designed to be a companion to the phone, not a replacement for a phone.

So yes, you could go out without the phone, but it has limits.

I'm buying the cellular 10 at some point for this exact reason; to replace my iPhone.

I think wearable is the future of the smartphone. When you look and hold your iPhone and really think about it; it's massive, it's heavy and awkward.

In the summer, I've really not enjoyed taking the iPhone around in my shorts, it's awkward and heavy.

Then I realised; what if I got the cellular Watch and took that out instead of the phone. I can do it, I don't need all of the apps on the iPhone and never order Uber. I just need phone and text plus 4/5G for emails, WhatsApp messages, etc.

Clearly Apple realise that thin and light is the future too.

I'm going to ditch my Watch 6 non-cellular for the 10.

Yes, I get that it’s obviously not at real replacement, but I’d still hope for more features on the Watch though. The bigger the phones, the more useful the AW could be, as I see it… And personally I believe that the Watch is being somewhat intentionally restricted. There are many times I believe that I could do just fine with just the Watch (even though mine is old AF), but when I get a notification, I usually have to pull out my phone to see the whole thing, and I find it annoying. That’s exactly why I’m hoping that the Series 10 will provide more information, and from the event it definitely seems capable…

Same here, mate. However, I’d still need to be able to order an Uber (or similar), though… But I don’t see why that should be a problem on the new Series 10…

I've ordered Uber from their website before - is that still possible ?.
