Welp, first full day with my S2 SS, and battery life isn't much better than my S0 SS, which I had for 18 months. :-(

Put it on fully charged at 7am and limping in at 36% as of 10:40pm with two apps in the doc (Remote and Workouts), background refresh turned off for all but about five apps, brightness set to minimum. This was with one 45 minute workout, two phone calls (both declined), and usual amount of texts (whatever that means).

How anyone can get three days of charge is beyond me!

Really? Wow, I'll give it a try. I'm assuming the docked apps stay somehow resident in memory sucking up battery or something? Also do complications decrease battery life? It makes sense, but I never thought about it. I max out my complications, including HR with cardiogram. But if I turn off complications then that kind of takes a large part of the utility of the watch away.

As far as I was told my others, complications are like having the app in the dock. But I don't notice any drain from complications vs the dock. Apple really needs to implement detailed battery usage on the iPhone Watch app.

Even though I get good battery life for a day and a half, it's never been completely consistent. I can be anywhere from 80%(on a good day) to 60% by the end of the day with just about the same usage. Wish I knew more about about why.

Sounds like you need to restart and/or try unpairing and pairing again.

I left background refresh on for most apps, have 4 or 5 apps in dock, didn't touch HR settings - didn't exercise today, but after taking the Watch off the charger (100% battery) at around 7:30 this morning, by midnight, it had 75% battery left.

This thread sounds like a Michelob Ultra commercial. I kid, I kid. I hope everyone's battery works well.

Yeah, I did a restart in the late afternoon, but didn't seem to help. Will see how Day 2 goes.....

For the record I'm pretty happy today, but at the same t ime I feel there was a trade off in getting good battery life. Off charger at 7:30am, now it's 10pm and I'm at 71%, very nice. But I didn't use it all day, other than glancing at some alerts, I'd say I probably looked at it 5 or 6 times per hour. So while it seems like good battery life, when you factor in that there is no always on display, and if you count up the seconds I used it, it's suddenly not that good.

Did you turn off the HR sensor? Or just restart? It would stink to lose the functionality of the always on HR sensor.

No, I just restarted. The HR sensor light was ALWAYS on. I wasn't sure if it was supposed to be that way until I looked it up online. So I just turned off the watch and turned it back on and since then It's been great.

The only settings I've changed is turning off the sound for notifications and removing most of the apps from the dock. I only left the ones I really felt like I needed on there, which are all 3rd party apps: Lutron, Nest, At Bat and The Weather. The face I have is the numerals face with the Activity complication.

It seems like working out is what sucks up a ton of battery. I worked out for an hour this morning with MotiFit running on the watch, using the AW for HR. I would check it every 5 minutes or so. An hour workout and I was at 84%. I guess it's doable, but I'm always going to be living on the edge on my workout days and trying to get this to last me all day.

Running a workout turns on the active HR monitor (with the green light), which does use a lot of battery. If you are worried about having the battery last all day, can you bring a charger with you and top it off during the day? A 10-15 minute charge should be enough to offset the battery drained during an hour's workout.

I guess I could buy another charger and leave it at work, but that just seems odd to have to do. I do notice that it charges VERY quickly, which is nice.

On watch OS 2, my S0 Watch usually lasted all day even with an hour or so workout. Battery life's been a bit more erratic since I upgraded to OS 3. Maybe 3.1 will fix it?

Yeah maybe they are just ironing out the bugs. I'll be patient.

Lol--four miles on the treadmill at the YMCA = more like cable access program with no production values hosted by local homeless guy.

REMOVE ALL APPS FROM DOCK and don't worry about any other settings. I do a 30min run in the morning(7am) daily, and by the end of the day(6pm) with normal usage, I'm always above 50%, many times still in the 70% range.

The only way I've been able to achieve that battery life, is removing all apps from the dock. Even with Weather, Calendar, Battery, Messages, and Email as my complications on the watch face, battery is still good. I also have background refresh for all apps enabled.

Why would you not use one of the best features of WOS3? Keeping things out of the dock means the apps have to load from your phone every time. You really need to figure out which app is causing your battery drain and only remove it from the dock.

Many others have shown you can run apps in your dock all day long without the battery drain issue, so it is specific to your situation. Re-pair the Watch and your battery life should improve. If not, remove one app at a time until you figure out the one that is draining the battery.

I tried all of that. Re-pairing, removing apps from dock one by one, and etc. Unfortunately, it's hard to tell when there is no detailed battery stats. Also, everything I need to stay open is already in my Complications, so it's not a big deal. I still get notifications from all my apps and the apps on the watch load quickly.

I just got my S2 42MM Aluminum yesterday - it arrived with 75% battery and I basically just opened it, paired it, and then went to bed (it was after 10pm when I get home).

This morning I woke up to 8% battery life - it basically just sat there all night on my nightstand, right next to my phone paired with bluetooth.

I think it was because the heart rate complication was on the face and it might have been running all night, plus all applications had background sync. I turned off background sync for most apps and removed all apps from the dock - we'll see what happens.
