AW3 can't unlock MBP

Has anyone had luck/success getting AW3 to unlock MBP?

My Series 2 has been working fine, setup AW3 with backup of AW2 and went in to sys pref to enable unlocking with new watch and all I get is a popup saying "unlocking Mac not supported with AW" and "update Mac." Sierra 10.12.6, AW OS 4 (same on AW2 that works), new '17 kaby lake 15" MBP. Sierra is up to date.

Perhaps, that was also discussed with senior advisor (was on w/ AC for hour plus with no luck). That said, given that my Series 2 still works and that 3 is communicating via same iPh7, same MBP, same Apple ID, same everything, it *should* work...
