So I tried sending messages on my watch when I was out without the phone and the message wont send with the sending bar stuck at 90%.

I can use the LTE function elsewhere eg mail and news. I just can’t send messages.

How do I check what’s wrong?

First have you power cycled your watch? Are you having problems with SMS/MMS Txt messages only while iMessages work? You mentioned mail and news worked.

I often find that a SMS/MMS Txt message stays on the screen even when it has been sent. Run a test with a partner to see if they actually get the message right away. The next step would be to contact your carrier to see if they have SMS/MMS Txts provisioned for your watch line.

I just signed out of Apple ID, disabled iMessage, rebooted both iPhone and Apple Watch and re-signed in.

Both SMS and iMessage still don't work, both inbound or outbound.

OK, another thing to check: to receive SMS/MMS Txt's on your watch, your iPhone must be on and connected your carrier's network via the cellular network or via Wi-Fi Calling if your carrier supports this feature. It does not have to be in range of your watch but online.

Since both SMS/MMS Txt and iMessages are failing, it really points to a configuration issue by your carrier. Also, can you verify that you are actually using LTE data from your watch when both SMS/MMS and iMessages fail after you restarted both the iPhone and the watch.

Thanks for the reply mate.

I asked another forum and was told that I have to have an email address under “send and receive” under messages (instead of just my mobile number) to make it work. I’ve done that and it’s now working.

Not sure if it’s a local Australian issue but it seems odd that they need an email address.

Is the iPhone switched on or off?

Some options only work if the iPhone is on, even if it’s not actually near the Watch.

I think SMS was one thing that didn’t work if the iPhone was switched off.

Will try and find a related article.
