I bought a new AW5 (with cell) in February. About 2 weeks ago, the watch kept going to the apple logo and I could not access any functions. Sometimes it would come back and other times it would need a hard reset. After dealing with it, I got on Apple Support Chat (I do have insurance too) and the tech sent me a replacement watch. I restored my backup and I have been having the same thing happen. After a hard reset, it would not leave the apple logo. The only solution was to unpair and re-pair the watch. It was working fine for half a day and the apple logo appeared and then disappeared.

Does anyone have any idea? My only thought was there was something in the software of my backup and maybe I should set it up without using the back up. I think the cell esim should stay if I do that, but means I have to re-configure everything.

Thanks

It’s definitely watchOS related. I’m curious to see what version you’re currently running, but you might have to send it to Apple, where they would they use a ‘diagnostic port‘ to either reboot or reload the latest version of watchOS. It’s definitely not hardware related with two different watches.

I have the latest Watch OS. I just got off chat support. They had me do a reset and erase. Then Set up watch (using my backup). So far so good and no issue. The prior support (when they sent a replacement watch) just had me unpair. I do not remember them telling me to do the erase and I know for a fact it was different as I had to enter my apple email after the erase today, but the prior time it was remembered.

Yup, that definitely should repair the issue by ‘erasing all content and settings‘ and restoring it. Unpairing the watch and re-pair wouldn’t cure that specific issue, it doesn’t reboot the watch in any sense. Whoever helped you the second time, is Absolutely correct.

I hate to say this, but no issues with the watch until today about mid day. I looked at it to check time and the apple logo was displayed. Hit the crown and nothing and then it came back to my watchface. So the frequency of it doing it has gone away, and I thought resolved, yet it re-appeared.

Any other ideas? The only other thing I can think is there is something in my watch backup that is causing it. I have deleted all but the apps I normally use. I also reduced the notifications to just the ones I have to have.

Have done that a few times. The erase and re-set up seemed to work, but it is every so often (3x in last 24 hours) jumping to the apple logo. Goes back after a few seconds (no buttons do anything while on the Apple logo). Going to keep track a bit more before contacting support. I really think it is something in my backup file.

If you set up as new, then your backup file doesn’t come into play. If you wipe and restore from backup, you will keep having problems if there is an issue with the backup file.

This is a big problem and has been for a while. My wife’s v4 started doing it. It was older so I just bought her a replacement. The new watch did the exact same thing even though I set it up as a new watch. I eventually reset the watch completely and her iPhone. That has mostly resolved it.

But here’s the best part. My new v5 just started doing the exact same thing.

I am having the same issue with my S4 and saw some other users on Reddit having the same issue. A couple users believe it's related to a bad notification that springs the Watch, even after a full wipe or a restore, the crash eventually returns.

I have been having this same issue. It started the day i installed ios 14 beta 5... I have found shutting down the watch for a few minutes a day has slowed it way down from happening

Just and update, I am on my third AW5. Bought new in February 2020. In August I contacted online support and they sent me a replacement. That watch started doing the same thing. I contacted chat support and they sent me another watch. I asked them and they said the replacements are brand new (not refurbished). I just set up the new one last night and less than 24 hours later I cam getting the random Apple logo.

I am at my wits end with this. Sometimes it goes away and other times it stays on for quite a while. I totally ignored my backups and set it up as brand new. I did not even customize the watch face. I turned off all notifications (Was thinking my Ring and Wyze camera notifications were causing the problem) and slowly added them back.

Is there any solution? I think it has to be a software issue since I am on my third watch.

I have an older iPhone 7 Plus on software version 13.6.1 and my AW5 is on 6.2.8

I have the jetsam event in the logs and mentioned it to the chat support person who seemed uninterested. I even made sure to have usage info sent to Apple since it has been happening. Not sure they monitor the logs.

Hard reboots do nothing. Unpair and re-pair (takes a bit of time and i know the 3 and 4 digit codes for all my credit cards by heart from doing it so much) will get you a day before the crashes re-occur. Mine is doing it now. I lifted my arm and I could access everything, as soon as I went to the keyboard to type the apple logo re-appeared.

Unpair and set up as new.

I cannot tell you how many times I have done that on the two replacement watches (have received 2 this month) and the problem eventually resurfaces. I erase the watch and unpair and set up as new. The only thing I have to keep is the cell plan. Problem persists.

Could the watch memory get overloaded with too many notifications and not refresh itself? Sometimes my exterior cameras notify alot when the wind is blowing my flag and some palm branches.

I suppose it is possible. I was unaware a lot of people not running beta were having this problem. Try removing the notification from the watch and see fi that helps. If it doesn’t, then I would remove all third party apps and see if that stops the rebooting. If it doesn’t, then it is probably an intermittent software bug.

File a bug in Apple Feedback Assistant and explain clearly that this is a software issue. They would probably take a minute to get back to you but they can give you custom logging profile and collect whatever data they need to help root cause the problem and hopefully fix it eventually. Otherwise its elimination game could it be this or could it be that, notifications, connectivity etc which might help you find a workaround eventually but aint gonna fix the problem.

Still testing, but so far, I have not had the problem re-occur once I shut off all notifications. I have been very selective in what notifications the watch receives and slowly adding ones that I typically use. That being said, I have Ring (Ring app and Rapid Ring) and Wyze both turned off. I have not turned them back on (I was suspecting they were the cause, but not positive). They were sending quite a number of alerts all day long from the cameras. Wind blowing a flag or branch.

I am thinking that (1) there is something in the notifications app of Ring or Wyze or (2) due to the numerous notifications hitting the watch, the memory was getting overloaded and causing the the apple logo to show up. Hard restarts would sometimes solve it for a day or less and my guess is less notifications on those days.

I posted the reddit post linked above, and can confirm that I also have the Wyze app on my phone. I've got about six cameras linked to my Wyze account, and never had issues before, so believe it has something to do with some recent changes to the Wyze app.

I did not turn off notifications, but simply try to clear all the Wyze notifications from Notification Center on the phone paired to the watch throughout the day, and haven't had any crashes recently.

The crashes from other wyze users further confirms my theory that Wyze is the source of these crashes..

Hope this helps!

I did not realize you had to clear the notifications from the notification center (the one on your phone?). That would make sense that the memory is getting full.

I never really clear them. I have 4 Wyze Cams, some plugs and Sense connectors. I can easily see how the memory can get full as there are quite a number of notifications.

Yes, the Notification Center on the phone. I don't think you typically need to clear it, but it does seem to help alleviate the jetsamevent crashes with the current version of the Wyze app.
