Coming from AW4, I don't think I like this auto brightness feature. In the dark room, I prefer the display bright. Is there a way to keep the brightness to stay the same in dark room? I have trouble reading when the display is not bright.
OMG!!!! Thank you for posting this. I am also coming from a S4 and noticed the exact same issue. It’s driving me crazy. I was just about to create the same post. Wish there was a way to turn this feature off!!!

THANK GOD!!! Yep, coming from an S4 and I have always had my brightness on full. Certainly disliking this auto-brightness how it is on the 7. Not only in normal use, but when I'm in sleep mode and turn the crown to disable it, the screen switches to the full face but the brightness is still the "sleep" brightness. Struggle to read it.

I have alway had brightness to the lowest setting for everyday use . After reading these post I went to the bathroom with no windows , closed the door , no lights on. I can read my watch without any problem , I even switched watch faces to make sure. I also went to display and brightness on the watch to see if setting had changed but it hasn't .
By the way , coming from a S4.

This is a well known issue and started with Series 5 and always on screen. It’s not the brightness of the screen but the light sensor which doesn’t always wake up correctly

I returned my series 5 because of this problem, then series 6. I’ve been waiting for series 7 to hopefully fix this issue because the series 4 was always bright when the screen activated in a dark room or light room it always felt bright and easy to read without my reading glasses

Well I can confirm the series 7 has fixed this problem for me.

Honestly its a well known problem and I’ve posted about this a few times now and even posted example pictures of a series 4 vs series 5,6 but the series 7 has resolved the issue

Here is my post from series 4 vs series 5

Honestly my series 7 is just as bright as series 4 and now sold the old watch FINALLY

Odd ... doesn't work for me... annoying to the point I'm considering returning the 7 and going back to the 4. Far too dark in a dark room when it wakes up. I'm on full brightness in settings.

After seeing this thread, I tested my Series 7 and luckily, my watch doesn't suffer from this problem.
What S7 do you have? I have a Graphite SS 45mm

So youre saying that in a dark room your brightness is the exact same as it is in a very well lit room? And you’ve tested this with the brightness all the way up??

Good thing you asked. I didn't test in the dark at full brightness. It was one down from full. I just tested again after you posted, and it didn't look to me to be the same brightness, even though it was still bright and I didn't have any trouble reading.

Thank you so much for testing. I’m no expert, and you guys are a hell of a lot smarter than I am, but if I was a betting man, Apple does this to extend battery life and basically allows them to make claims of how great the battery is. Much appreciated. I was seconds away from calling support and making an appt. #Cheers

Wow. I came here to ask the same question. I considered a Series 7 because I had the same complain last year with my Series 6 upgraded from a Series 3 that was way brighter in dark room.

Since then I don't like my watch as much as when I had my series 3. The brightness is way too low in dark/low light situations at a point I have problem reading the text. As usual, Apple didn't listened and make the same mistake this year. Oh well, at least it save me money.

Couldnt agree more, but coming from the S4 I absolutely love the S7 except for this issue. It’s driving me crazy
