On the developer beta, to get to the watch face it asks you to hold digitize crown to unlock instead of turn Digital Crown. Do you think this is because they will remove the turntable crown for a touch capacitive faux button?

Somebody on here said it was the same for water lock unlocking. I guess could keep the crown but do away with moving parts, but I also would not like to see it removed from the design.

god i hope not
They better not!

I recall HTC, once an OEM leader in smartphones rid of a scroll wheel and volume buttons in smartphones a long time ago.

It was not successful.

Capacitive touch will not work under water since there is nothing to allow the conductive circuit to complete due to eater between fingers.

Apple is better off using the touch screen than getting rid of the Digital Crown.

The newly designed workout app uses the Digital Crown the scroll the screen. Because many water lock the screen during workouts, scrolling of course could unlock the screen. So they changed the behavior and now all the previous scrolling unlocks use a press and hold and scrolling enables new features when in apps where previously it only was used to unlock the screen.

The Digital Crown isn’t going anywhere.
