For use in the dark or low light.

A morse code flasher and interpreter. Two iPhone 4s could flash morse code to one another with the flash, and the other could use the camera to sense the flashes and display the message on the screen.

It could be a fun app.

Also it could work with one person with an iPhone 4 and another person with a flashlight (and an understanding of morse code)

    Awesome?

There is reason morse code was replaced by the phone over 100 years ago!

    To each his/her own.....

    Bah! That's nothing!

I'm working on a telegraph app that sends electrical signals through a wire to another phone that interprets the signals into words.

I tried to implement this. Unfortunately it looks like the iPhone is not powerful enough to process the data.
I read the RGB data from the camera using the AVCaptureSessionPresetMedium quality preset (480x360) and then I computed the brightness of each pixel (without other further processing). I tried with and without hardware acceleration. But the result is poor.... I only get 10 FPS.
On average a letter requires more than 8 on or off unit signals. And we can transmit at most 10 such signals per second.
This means transmitting text with it it's going to be very very slow... for instance sending "hi how are you?" would require 12 seconds!

You could just have it flash a random light pattern and then just send an SMS... prolly a lot easier
