My Linksys WRT600N is the best router I've had.

I get full bars all over my house. Also the aluminum acts as a shield, but I haven't noticed a decrease in reception yet.

I purchased this router today and set it up. It was good for about 15 minutes and now it's dropping the signal on and off. I tried moving the router all over to see if it matters and now it seems to be working but for how long only signal will tell. Also, how do I find out the channel it's using and then do what you guys said to do?

log into the router type 192.168.1.1 in your add bar then your username leave blank password is admin

then go under your wireless tab pick a channel
 
Truly the MBP wireless is poorer then MB

Well, for what it's worth, I have both the MB and MBP and two wireless routers. The wireless performance of the MBP is far poorer.

When running AP grapher on both side by side the MBP signal is typically 12-15 dB lower than the MB. Since each 3 dB is half the signal strength, this means that the MBP is seeing a signal 1/16th as strong as what the MB is seeing. No wonder the throughput suffers. Of course if you don't have the superior MB next to the MBP you might not notice it.

I will post some screen captures of the graphs if anyone is interested.
 
Ok, i'll add my two bits here.

My dad has a new 2.4 17" MBP and a 15" G4 titanium powerbook. He had a white (G) airport base station in his office. If he took the MBP outside to the back patio (about 75' away) the signal would drop to 15-25%. The powerbook would loose its signal at about 35'.

I took him to best buy, bought a new D-Link 100% mac compatible N Extreeme router (with G-boost and B also) with three antennas for $119. It took about 5 minutes to setup. Put it where the old airport was. Now, on the back patio, the MBP stays steady at 85%, and anywhere inside the house the signal shows 95-100%. The old powerbook now shows 50% outside on the patio. The built in G boost on the new router greatly improved the Powerbooks range and strength, and the MBP's built in 802.11n enables full screen HD video to be streamed ON THE PATIO without a single dropped frame.

Needless to say, my dad is VERY happy now.

I have the same D link router setup my house. My wife and I can roam ANYWHERE in the house with near 100% signal strength. I cna even sit in my car in the driveway and get a good signal!

I think the Airport's problem was the lack of MIMO (Multiple In Multiple Out) technology and the fact that it didn't have any tall external antennas.

I agree that a better wireless router can improve reception, but this does not change the fact that the MBP sees 12 dB less signal than the MB. What you have demonstrated is that even the MBP can be keep happy if you make the signal strong enough. If you put a MB and MBP side by side you will see the difference.
