I'm running Watch OS7

Anyone ever feel like you're having an "off" day in regard to your Apple Watch battery life? If you're somewhat of a creature of habit (taking your watch off the charger at about the same time every day), and you know roughly where your battery life is, percentage-wise, at a specific time of day, you're likely accustomed to seeing it at a certain percentage at any given time of day. Pretty predictable, right?

Today seemed a little "off" for mine. Usually I take it off the charger at about 12 noon. When I'm wrap up at work after 8 hours, I'm usually right around 85% - and that's with doing very little with the watch - not using any apps or anything - just normal, mostly-idle battery drain. Today, same as always, take it off the charger at 12p ... and by 5:30p I'm down to 85% - almost 4 hours premature of where it usually is.

Long story short, just noticed significantly worse battery drain today compared to all other days - and not doing anything different with my watch.

So, your opinion please ... 100% to 85% in 5 1/2 hours ... does that seem excessive, or pretty normal??

My S6 definitely drains much faster than my S4 did. Took it off the charger at 5:30am and it’s currently 9:14am and it’s at 48%. With my S4 I would be at over 50% at about 7pm so I’m sure the AOD is making a huge impact. I just set up the watch less than 2 days ago so I’m hoping that the battery life improves over time.

edit: Sorry I didn’t see this was a S5 thread.

15% in 5.5 hours is 2.72% per hour, which is fairly decent.

That’d give about 33 hours from 100% to 10%, well beyond Apple’s 18 hour battery life stat.

there’s a bunch of folks who’d be really happy with your “off day”.:)

The only way to really tell is to drain from 100% to 0% and see how long your watch lasts. Anything in between is the watch guessing at remaining life.

That said, Apple advertises 18 hours which is 5.6% per hour. After 5 hours you should be at 72% remaining.

More practically, my S6 drains at 2.5% per hour so after 5 hours I expect to be at 87%.

The watch can have an off day in reality. Often caused by some poorly configured Watch app or complication sucking up battery life.

For the S5, your battery life still seems pretty good!

Having owned an S4 then an S5, and now an S6, I can assure you AOD makes relatively little difference to battery life, at least for me.

Here’s from bedtime last night on my S6

Well that’s good to know because AOD is definitely my favorite feature of the S6 over the S4. I’m going to give it a little more time to see if the battery usage settles down. In the meantime I turned off the background refresh and handoff to see if that helps.

@edlex make sure you don’t have a rogue app chewing cpu. It’d be worth a power cycle on both watch and phone.

I’ve not turned off either of those things, they’re part of why I have the watch.

Understood, thanks!
