A year-old version of Transmission did this. The current has no issues at all with stat-reporting to trackers.
People on 2 trackers I use still run into this issue, which version fixed it so I can better answer the tech questions. The last guy that got banned had version .95 which supposedly fixed it.

I am 100% certain that version .96 is completely safe for users and trackers.

I was using Transmission back in October, but it really messed up my internet. When I clicked a link, I would have to refresh the page repeatedly for it to load. I tried everything I could think of to fix it, and as soon as I deleted Transmission, the internet worked perfectly fine, and I haven't had a problem since. It also never completed a torrent (although it did complete a bunch of files within the torrents).

I use Azureus and transmission. But i hate how Azureus makes a file for everything in torrent(and you only want a few files from the thing) and azureus will download the non selected items. So if their like pdfs, the files may be over 30 or more and i only want 5 of them. If the torrents slow i might get 10 pdfs i dont want(now think of that with different files types with similar names). Transmission kinda does does this but to a much lesser extent. But its still annoying that both programs will make files for unwanted files.

You were eating up all of your bandwidth.

I do remember messing with the bandwith limits, thinking that could be the problem, but at the same time, nothing was actually downloading. It is possible that it had something to do with my school's network too. It's caused a lot of other problems because of blocked ports, etc. I don't know. I've just never had problems with anything else like Limewire or Azureus on the school network.

Xtorrent

Hey everyone, I am really new to all of this. I have been using Xtorrent for a couple months now, and just bought the pro version of it. Could someone simply explain to me a little bit about Xtorrent or what exactly is going on? Another question is how good is Xtorrent compared to other programs. I have never really heard of any of the others.

From what I have heard, XTorrent is based on an older version of Transmission, which sort of adds insult to injury when you consider that they ask you to pay for XTorrent.

Transmission has gone 1.0. It solves many of the problems mentioned earlier in this thread, and has a nicer Leopard look.

FWIW I'm downloading some extremely obscure torrents at the mom. For some reason they're just screaming, while 6 hours ago they were ambling along using the previous version of Transmission. Subjective, I know, but still...

Dave Watanabe takes the Transmission code and packages it nicely with built in search then charges. As he does not update immediately after Transmission is updated it is always an old version of Transmission.

I have been running azureus for some time and love it. Very easy to use, force parts of a download. Confused on the prompt when you first initially download the torrent, where you can check and uncheck the files. I thought it was to download certain files, tried that but still download the WHOLE torrent.

But what do you guys use for plug-ins on azureus?

That's weird. It should let you selectively download...

I don't use any myself. The program is complicated enough already! :^)

How to convert a torrent?

Hi everyone,

Is there a way to convert a torrent? a .mkv file to a .avi?

Also is there a way to play a torrent?

I've tried Mplayer but some files don't get audio.

I can't find a good converter and I don't know how to open the files any other way.

Thanks

i've tried the perian component Link: http://perian.org/
and I can now open the movie with quicktime but no audio comes. Is there a plug in that fills in the audio?

WHAT?

OK, a .torrent file is used in conjunction with an app like Transmission to then download a larger file. The .torrent file is just a tracker, you use it to get the file that you want.

Then, once you download the file, if it is video, you can use VLC or some such to play it back. I personally prefer Quicktime with the Perian component.

I've tried the suggestion and it opens in quicktime but no audio. Trouble is can't fast forward in quicktime with this file.

Any other suggestions?

Personally I've found Azureus to be much too bloated as of late.

Transmission with me works perfectly with every torrent I care to download (I don't use any torrents that require registration for the trackers).

It's also lightweight and doesn't get in my way when I'm working.

Every since Azureus had that whole 'vuze' thing integrated, I lost interest, although it's still my bit torrent client of choice on Windows.

Watanabe is a major d-bag...and if I ever run into him in person....I'd flip him the bird.
