That's the problem with them. They need $500 worth of networking equipment in order to work.

I also had problems with mine, and upgrading from my decade-old Verizon router to an Ubiquiti setup also fixed the issue. But it shouldn't have been, as every other device in my house was rock solid with the Verizon router.
its not just the signal level of the wifi that matters for devices like homepod.

they require and rely heavily on multicast/broadcast traffic and a well supported and performant mdns/bonjour implementation.

They are still making these junk speakers?? 🙄 They will have to pay me a seven figure salary to use them.

Do HomePods play with iTunes purchased music or is it Apple Music only? And then to play purchased and ripped it’s just through your phone or iPad etc?

I’ve always wanted one but I’m not a fan of streaming
Yes they work with your iTunes library - I must be one of the few who still have iTunes Match rather than Apple Music…

Luckily I didn't make any promises to shave off all my hair because my guess about a press release yesterday was wrong. Surely though with various retailers showing no stock, or even explicitly declaring the current HPM end-of-life, Apple must be releasing the new one soon?

HPM is one of the lower-priced Apple products and (usually) available not just from Apple but also stocked by quite a wide range of well-known third-party retailers which puts it more solidly into gift territory than some of Apple's more expensive stuff. I wouldn't have thought that Apple would want the HPM out of the picture for people buying presents this holiday season.
