Having a hard time deciphering what a Mac mini tower would be that is not a Mac studio...
There was a lot of talk about a Mac mini that fits between the Studio and the current mini. It would have an M1 Pro for people who just wanted a bit more power than the regular mini. Why would that be a "tower" IDK

A guess: To allow greater connectivity than the current mini and yet allow it to occupy less desk area. Effectively make a current mini a bit wider to allow extra ports. But then default to standing on edge (maybe with some stabilising arrangement).

Possibly the M1 Pro would produce a touch too much heat for the existing mini enclosure to manage (at full blast). Even without an increase in size, allowing (or requiring) tower orientation would provide sufficient air flow or allow fans to be used at lower speeds/less often.

Though there appear to be two models, perhaps there is virtually no difference except orientation on desk?

I think the M2 Mac Mini as listed, is real.

The "Mac Mini Tower" is probably not a "Mac Mini" with different form factor, but instead a "Mac" in "Mini Tower" form, AKA the new Mac Pro.

The processor of the new Mac Pro still hasn't been announced (it's likely not to be called M1) so that would explain the silly 8/256 M1 Pro config (they have no clue, so they put a random placeholder there).

The 'Mac mini Tower' with M1P (M1 Pro) and 8/256gb configuration doesn't make sense at all. The 14" M1 Pro MacBook Pro starts at 16/512gb, so why would they nerf a desktop version that's come after it? And why would it be a tower?

It's probably going to be too easy to read into this, so I'm sticking with the standard M1 and M1 Pro configs for now.

"These aren’t real SKUs. Preemptively made before the last event and not properly removed. All guesses based on rumors."

False. I just checked and the placeholder product page was actually created yesterday and not "before the last event".

As you can see below, that page was first indexed by Google just yesterday:

Before yesterday, no results:

Also I checked the website history and this wouldn't be the first time that some product is leaked before the official announcement (happened with phones and cameras from other brands in the past).

“Tower”… perhaps similar size/shape as a Dell Optiplex Micro? Or a Sony PS2 on its side?

Or, probably more likely..

The M2 Mini could be AppleTV-sized, so.. Maybe something like 3-4 AppleTVs stacked together?

So.. “Tower”.

What exactly would stop Apple from selling the new AS Mac Pro, let's say, one or two months from now?

Even if they still had to start manufacturing them, it's such a low volume product that meeting the market demand shouldn't be such a big deal.

Also I'd like to add that nothing prevents B&H or any other retailer from taking reservations months ahead of release.
