I will pile on and tell you that I'm extremely pleased with my 13rMBP purchase. I decided to buy through B&H from a previous good discount on the iPad air 2 before the holidays. I wanted a machine with 16GB of RAM and couldn't wait 5-7 days for apple's BTO. Machine arrived without flaw in 3 days from order to doorstep.

Free parallels, parallels access for 6 months and no tax all do not hurt either...

I agree with Yanman --- typing this on the beautiful 13" rMBP i7/16/512 that I got last week from B&H, along with AppleCare. Machine arrived in perfect condition and is working flawlessly, so no worries here! It was nice to save a little money on this purchase, too......

In the past I've used B&H for cameras and lenses along with other photo gear, and have always been more than satisfied.

Also strongly recommend B and H. They are 100% legit. Their store in Manhattan is amazing.

I have purchased 2 pc laptops from them. Returned 1 a couple of days our of refund period because the sound wasn't great. They still gave me a full refund.

Just to be clear, I've been buying photo gear from B&H for at least 20 years and will say that their prices and customer service cannot be beaten anywhere. On computers, people should be aware of the return policy, since it's different from the photo return policy.

Read their return policy. The short answer for computers is only if completely unopened or defective. No buy & try.

bad screen quality is probably deemed a subjective defect too.

yikes, glad I went the apple direct refurb route :D

but I luvvvvvv BH in general (for lenses, etc)

I'd assume a defective screen (one that is actually bad, not just not the model number you want) is a guaranteed return. They are good about defective returns.

I'm happy with my new MBP 13" from them, and the $200 saved on tax (plus the $10 off and the free expedited shipping) is a pretty big deal.

It is my understanding that even if B&H will not take back a machine that has been opened and used and does not exhibit frank defects, that it is still possible to actually send the computer in to Apple and receive a full refund from them.

Is this documented somewhere? I'd be great if that were true, but if it's not in print somewhere it might be a gamble.

Please double check that. I do not believe Apple will do that.

Getting money from Apple for returning equipment not purchased through their channel? Seems rather unlikely to me too.

It was in a post or two somewhere on here that I saw it, actually.....and, yes, may very well not be accurate. Certainly it would behoove a prospective buyer to check things out very thoroughly first! ETA: just saw the post from dyt1983 verifying what I had mentioned.

B&H has the policy they do in order to discourage people from buying-and-trying -- especially over and over again. Sure, if there is a definitely documentable flaw in the machine B&H wouldn't refuse to work with that situation but this way they are not having to deal with everyone who buys a new computer and decides that the screen isn't just absolutely perfect or that there is some other flaw (possibly very minute and pretty much indiscernible) which might not even affect the operation of the device at all and then promptly attempts to return it......

Whatever. In the end the buyer does take a risk but so does the seller when it comes to all of this electronic stuff.

He's correct, Apple will.

Here's what Apple says on its web site in the return policies section:

Only items that have been purchased directly from Apple, either through the Apple Online Store or at an Apple Retail Store, can be returned to Apple.

Here's the return policy for authorized resellers:

https://www.apple.com/legal/sales-support/sales-policies/reseller.html

[...]If the authorized reseller won't accept the Hardware Product return, Apple will accept the return under the following circumstances:

You contact Apple to request the Apple product return within 14 days of the purchase. AC_RightofReturn@apple.com

You purchased the Apple product from an Apple authorized reseller in the United States or Canada and the reseller refused to accept the Apple product return.
[...]
So yes, Apple should accept a return if B&H doesn't.

That's the return policies for the Apple Store. (Note "store.apple.com" in the URL.)

If you don't buy it from the Apple Store, this does not apply. I suggest you look on the site for sales policies governing purchases from Authorized Resellers.

No, you don't. It has nothing to do with returns to Apple, it has to do with returns to the Apple Store (see previous comment).

I really fail to understand why so many people on MR have a problem understanding the Apple Store is a separate entity from Apple and from Authorized Resellers.

Edit: Hey, look at that. Apple (the company) doesn't accept returns from the Apple Store, as shown on the AD return form. You need to return it to the Apple Store (B&M or online).

Hats off to both and an upvote on your posts. Thank you for the correction.

Education at B&H

Does anybody know anything about education discounts at B&H? It seems to be a bit of a hassle to set up and I can't really find any specifics on discounts.
Also, thank for all of the information on B&H's legitimacy and return policy! I think I will buy my rMBP 13" from them

Please visit www.bandh.com/edu for information on our EDU program. Discounts are offered in cooperation with individual brands or their authorized US distributors. Some brands do not participate at all and others only offer discounts on a select group of products. You must be a U.S.A. based educator or student in an accredited collegiate-level institution, in relevant programs. High School Educators of approved programs are also eligible.
