Making the jump from a 2006 Mac Pro 1.1 to a 2018 i7 Mac Mini (more background from my thread here: https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...big-a-difference-and-other-questions.2197623/)

I've been researching the best place to get it from, and using Apple Insider's Mac Mini Price Guide (https://prices.appleinsider.com/mac-mini-late-2018) and from what I've all seen, it's B&H PhotoVideo.

It's $150 dollars cheaper there ($1,149 - https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1441909-REG/apple_z0w1_mrtr21_bh_mac_mini_late_2018.html), which I'd use the savings to upgrade the RAM.

I really want to pull the trigger, I just don't understand how B&H is literally the only place offering this kind of discount. It seems too good to be true.

EDIT: I'm going to contact a customer support rep tomorrow on the Apple Store Online, say I want to buy directly from Apple but showing them I can get it $150 cheaper from B&H, and ask if they would do the 10% price match to bring it to $1,169. We'll see how that goes.

I second what the previous poster said. BH Photo is LEGIT, they've been around since 1973. Amazon typically price matches BH Photo. Both BH Photo and Amazon are selling the base i3 and i5 Mini's for the exact same price. I prefer Amazon only because of Amazon's return and replacement policy. Nobody beats Amazon when it comes to that. I put in an i5 order with Amazon.

Note to the OP, if you are interested in the i5 there's a link on the Appleinsider website where the i5 base model is $899 and supposedly that's a deal only thru Appleinsider

@graytotoro & @Heat_Fan89, did either of you sign up for the B&H Payboo Card (https://www.bhphotovideo.com/credit-cards) so you'd get back the ~$60 in sales tax?

@Heat_Fan89 I'm going for the i7 since I need this Mini to last me at least 8 years.
Save your money and get the i5. The performance between the i5 and i7 are pretty close. As far as wanting to get 8 years out of it, i'm currently running a 2012 Mac Mini that's still going strong and after Catalina that Mini will have received 10 yrs of support, not counting the few extra years installing unsupported MacOS if I wish.

You will get the same support with either the i3/i5/i7. The i3 is twice as fast as the 2012 quad core Mini.

B&H is terrific, I have spent a considerable sum on computers, pro video and other gear there going back to around 2001. Their store is also quite amazing if you ever have a chance to visit in person. B&H frequently has better prices than other stores. But - caveat emptor - be sure to read the fine print on their return/exchange policy. AFAIK, you can't return a computer after the box has been opened (and this is NOT the case with other products at B&H). So they aren't a good choice for somebody who is subject to "buyers remorse". :D
