Just don't use one of those boy/girl interchangeable names like Alex, Drew, Taylor, etc.

haha, my husband agrees with you. I wanted to name my daughter Jamie but he was really against the boy/girl names. We went with Lauren, which I also loved.

First my name is really cool: Travis, yes I really like and I'm not a cowboy

Anyway for my future son, I love the name Fender. (yes, like the guitar)

For a girl, I really have no suggestions, but I love the name Sarah.

We're planning to name our soon-to-be-born son Sam... and while thinking about middle names, discovered that if we wanted to be horrible, horrible people, we could make his middle name Beaux. :D

Hint: Don't make it Adams. ;)

My stepdaughter (Nicole) and husband (Gareth), both excellent names, chose "Morghan Chelsea" for my first grandbaby.

Great name. I love "Chelsea." I did mention "Sydney" as a girl's name, but Chelsea is another good one. I'll try and figure out more city names that can used as people names.

Getting it changed was catharsis enough, thanks ;) And barring you snorting enough cocaine to put an elephant down, it's a name I don't think anyone could stumble onto by way of accident. If you want to guarantee that much ridicule to a child, you have to come across it on purpose ;)

No, it was worse.

Did it rhyme with a female body part?

Don't get angry, Mulva, I'm just curious. ;)

You wouldn't happen to be black?

It might be funny. I don't think any of his peers will ever understand the joke though and explaining it would be ugly.

I have a friend who is Puerto Rican and his son is nicknamed Taco.

That would have been easier to deal with methinks. On a related note, I did go through a portion of the fifth grade when half the class called me Moby Nodick.

It's OK...the guy who started that little gag is now in jail awaiting trial for murdering his parents, so I guess I get to laugh last. ;)

How about...

Egbert, Archibald or Harrington

better yet...

Alan!

For a girl there is always...

Edwina, Mertle or Edna

better yet...

Ellen!

Congats none-the-less, even though my suggestions suck (except Alan and Ellen of course!)

Nope. That's why it would be so horrible.

Yeah, my understanding is that the reference is to the "Little Black Sambo" book(s?) that I remember seeing from my mother's childhood. I believe the term is generally considered a racist slur.

Lol... that's the name of my truck too!

I swear we spent two hours at dinner tonight with the hubby's family hashing out boy's names with no good names to be had. It's so hard when you want to incorporate an Indian and American name for the first and middle names (the order of which doesn't matter so long as it flows).

I swear if this kid's a boy we are going to be scrounging at the last minute trying to come up with a decent name. Blech! :p

Do you have a short last name?

If not, how many syllables and what letter does it begin with?

Remember, the full name has got to sound good when you or your wife are screaming it down the hallway when she's eight years old and done something awful.

I like my sons name- Griffin
OR
Lars
Liam
Thateus
Nicodemus

Girls-

Sarafina
Bijou
Daphne
Tabitha

I also reccomend not naming your child with a "normal" name that has "creative spelling".
Anferney (sorry and no offence Patmian212) comming from a childs lips sounds as if they have a speech impediment. I have heard stories from preschool and elementary teachers I know that this causes problems and conflict with the child. People assume they are misspelling or mispronouncing their name.

You guys have to check this out:

Baby Name Explorer

It's really really cool. Shows you the popularity of any name over time. Mine (Matthew) was the 3rd most popular name when I was born. I guess that explains why I keep running into these people... when I was in preschool, 3 of the 8 of us were named Matthew, and in college, I roomed with three other guys and two of them were named Matthew (yes, three Matthews under one roof).

Congratulations and best of luck with the delivery!
